Abstrak :

Fisher folk organizations in the past has very limited roles, however, with the development of democracy in Indonesia, the roles of fisher folk social organizations began to be more significant. This research was conducted on the fishing community in Pati, Juwana, Central Java, which consisted of various kinds of fishing sub-communities with various fishing gear, such as purse seine, cantrang, squid nets, and nets. This study aims to look at the social organization of fishers in Pati and the role of fisher folk organizations. The methodology used in this study was a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews on actors who play a role in fisher organizations and members of the organizations. Research shows that there are several and diverse fisher folk organizations. The roles of fisher folk social organizations are also very diverse, ranging from internal roles to external roles that shape relationships between organizations, including initiating fisher folk social movement.
